BRAINSPOTTING
EMDBrainspotting therapy, or BST, is a treatment method that aims at processing and
resolving the psychological distress derived from traumatic experiences, such as Post-
Traumatic Stress Disorder, emotional dysregulation, anxiety and depressive disorders,
and more. It is based on the idea that the visual field can be used effectively to help
people assimilate and process distressing memories.
These strategic eye positions in peoples’ visual field are known as “Brainspots”, and are considered to be correlated to the distressing memories. By locating them and focusing on the physical and psychological response that these spots generate, the therapist can help you assimilate those memories in a way that cause little to no distress.
Brainspotting can help you reduce the negative effects caused by traumatic experiences in fewer sessions compared to other treatment modalities, since it processes, and releases experiences and symptoms that are typically out of reach for the conscious mind and its cognitive and language capacity.
Brainspotting therapy can be used to address a multitude of challenges: – PTSD and other trauma and stress-related issues – Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias – Sexual assault – Sleep disturbance – Violence and abuse Remember that you are not alone, and we are here to help.
